running like Usain Bolt

lol..just as I posted my last blog post I reached the FT of the $50 20k guaranteed on FTP.

Was a pretty crazy FT and we finally chopped 4-handed. I was the shortstack, so I got screwed by about $100 but I still got 4.5k which is more than 3rd place originally would have paid. Still no win, but finally a score that lets you forget about not winning lol.

Has been a nice week...

running hot

kind of running hot since I made my 3rd final table within a week. Once again the 3r on FTP and sadly once again a second place. Again lost against the worst player at the table. Would be nice to not only run good enough to reach a FT but also close one out sooner or later.

I've won 1.9k but I'm still thinking about the 3k that I had within reach...

another big score

FTed the $22 20k guaranteed today. Once again I'm mad because I once again didn't come out with a win (have to wait a little longer for my first 1000+ players MTT win). But hey, I came in 9/9 and finished 6th so I guess I should be happy. But that's a poker player's mindset. When first place is over 5k you can't really be happy with 1.2k

Twisted world lol.

2nd place FTP 3rebuy

Finally a decent MTT score. I'm a bit disgusted with the 2nd place because the guy who won it was probably the worst player at the table. But you can't beat a calling station who continues to catch cards. Anyway, nice score, next time I'll win.

August results

Nothing spectacular happened in August. In the last couple of days I started grinding MTTs again and missed a couple of high scores just by a coinflip or two. Guess that's why I love MTTs so much and I'll always come back to them - the rush of playing the last 5 tables in a 1000+ players tournament can't be compared to grinding cash games.

Anyway..here are the numbers for August:

Pokerstars + $745
FTP +$126

For September I've also started to grind on PartyPoker and AbsolutePoker. I don't really like their software but from what I've seen from other regulars, you give up so much EV not playing on them. The field size is smaller (=less variance) and there are a lot less regulars playing in the MTTs (=bigger ROI).

Pokerstars currently runs the WCOOP and I have 2 $215 tickets .. I guess I'll be playing this sunday and next sunday. Would be nice if my recent near-big-score-misses would be compensated by a run-good-one-time in a WCOOP event hehe.

tableninja

So I'm finished with school and I'm also back from vacation, which means that I should have more time playing poker and updating this blog lol.

I once again caught the SNG bug. I downloaded tableninja and tried to mass-multitable. I obv started with $0.10 and $1 SNGs while I still configured tableninja and got used to 10+ tables. I then stepped up to the $6 SNGs (45man and 90man) and also increased the amount of tables (24). Playing that many tables really fries your brain (lol) and takes some time to get used to.

I'm still tweaking here and there and looking for the perfect mix of mouse + keyboard hotkeys. I don't know how some of the well-known multitablers play with like 40-50 tables but I guess it's all practice.

Since I'm still getting used to so many tables, I obviously made some mistakes while playing and therefore didn't book a win. I played about 90 SNGs and lost $40 .. I'm actually quite happy with the result. It's still within variance (just win a flip on the bubble in one of those 90 SNGs so that I push to a top 3 spot and suddenly I'm breakeven for the session or maybe in the green).

Variance is also the main reason why I'm trying to mass-multitable. For the 180man SNGs you need a sample size of about 1.000 to say with some kind of certainty that you are a winning player. 4-tabling them for like 10 SNGs per 2-3 hours obviously gets you nowhere. You play months before you can tell if you are a winning player .. and you will go on multiple weekly losing streaks which probably destroy you mentally.

On the other side, when you are playing 20 SNGs / hour you reach the "long run" a lot quicker and a downswing lasts like 1-2 sessions.

The thing I like most about mass-multitabling SNGs: you don't get upset by bad beats because you don't get to see them. You push with AA and switch to another table. You don't even get to see the result and probably also can't remember after acting on the other 20 tables lol.

In the next couple of days I'll finetune tableninja some more and try to get comfortable 20-tabling + actually making a profit playing. Then I'll step it up to about 30 tables and also throw in some $12 SNGs.
